WhatsApp and Conduyt
Conduyt sends and receives WhatsApp messages through a WhatsApp sender on your own Twilio account. Automations reach contacts with templates Meta has approved, and your team replies from the contact page within 24 hours of the contact's last WhatsApp message, the window Meta sets for free-form messages. Incoming WhatsApp messages land on the contact with the rest of their history, and a STOP on WhatsApp opts the number out the same way a STOP by text does.
What makes it different
Outreach with templates Meta approved
In Automations, the Send SMS step has a WhatsApp channel. Pick a template from your Twilio account, fill each numbered placeholder with text or a merge field such as the contact's first name, and see what the contact will read. When the step runs, Conduyt reads the template from Twilio again and sends it only if Meta has approved it.
Free-form replies inside the 24-hour window
Once a sender is connected, the Send from pills on a contact's page include WhatsApp. A free-form message goes out only within 24 hours of the contact's last WhatsApp message; after that Conduyt refuses it and asks for an approved template. A free-form automation step follows the same rule, checked again at the moment it sends.
Replies land on the contact
Incoming WhatsApp messages arrive on the same Twilio webhook as your texts. Conduyt matches the number to a contact, or creates one, keeps the message in the contact's history marked WhatsApp, and raises the same message received event as an incoming text, so automations and webhooks that listen for incoming messages run on it.
Opt-outs and do-not-contact rules apply
A contact who sends STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END or QUIT on WhatsApp is opted out for that number, exactly as with a text. Before every WhatsApp send Conduyt runs the same opt-out and do-not-contact checks it runs before a text.
What you need in place first
What moves, and which way
| Direction | What moves | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Conduyt to Twilio (template) | The template's Content SID, the value for each placeholder with merge fields filled in, the sender and contact numbers, and a status callback address. | Twilio renders the approved template. Conduyt keeps the text the contact reads, with the values in place, on the contact's history. |
| Conduyt to Twilio (free-form) | The message text, the sender and contact numbers, a status callback address, and the attachment URL when an automation step sets one. | Sent only inside the 24-hour window. Both numbers go out as whatsapp: addresses in E.164 format, as Twilio specifies (Twilio WhatsApp API). |
| Twilio to Conduyt (incoming) | Each WhatsApp message a contact sends: the sender and recipient numbers, the text and the message ID. | Twilio posts it in the same format as an incoming SMS with whatsapp: addresses. Conduyt checks Twilio's signature with your auth token, finds your account by its WhatsApp sender, and stores the numbers without the prefix. |
| Twilio to Conduyt (status) | Delivery status for each message Conduyt sent, such as sent, delivered, undelivered, failed or read. | Twilio reports read receipts for WhatsApp (Twilio message status); Conduyt records a read message as delivered. |
| Conduyt reads from Twilio | Your WhatsApp senders with their status and display name, and your templates with Meta's approval verdict, category, language and any rejection reason. | Read with your Twilio credentials when Settings, then WhatsApp, or the Send SMS step opens, and the chosen template again at every send. Conduyt does not write anything to your Twilio senders or templates. |
4 steps, about ten minutes
Connect Twilio
In Conduyt, open Settings, then Twilio, and connect your Twilio account if it is not connected yet. The WhatsApp page asks for this first.
Register a WhatsApp sender in Twilio
In the Twilio console, open Messaging, then Senders, then WhatsApp, register your number and complete Meta's business verification. Point the sender's incoming message webhook at the same URL as your SMS number so replies land in Conduyt.
Pick the sender in Conduyt
Open Settings, then Connections, then WhatsApp. Under Sender, choose your number in WhatsApp sender and click Connect. Only a sender Twilio lists as online can be picked.
Check templates and start sending
The Templates list on the same page shows Meta's verdict for each template. In an automation, add Send SMS, set Channel to WhatsApp and choose a Message type; to reply by hand, pick the WhatsApp pill on the contact's page.

Common questions
Does Conduyt integrate with WhatsApp?
Yes, through your own Twilio account. Once a WhatsApp sender Meta has approved is online in Twilio, you pick it in Settings, then WhatsApp. Automations can then send approved templates, your team can reply from the contact page within 24 hours of a contact's last WhatsApp message, and incoming WhatsApp messages land on the contact.
Can Conduyt send the first WhatsApp message to a lead?
Yes, as a template Meta has approved, sent from a Send SMS step with the WhatsApp channel or through the API. Free-form text only reaches a contact within 24 hours of their last WhatsApp message, and the contact page composer sends free-form text only.
What do I need before I can connect WhatsApp?
A Twilio account connected to Conduyt and a WhatsApp sender registered on it. Twilio's self sign-up links the number to a WhatsApp Business Account; the number must not already be registered with WhatsApp, and Meta business verification has to be complete before production.
What happens when a contact replies STOP on WhatsApp?
The same as a STOP by text. STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END and QUIT opt that number out, and Conduyt checks opt-outs and do-not-contact entries before every WhatsApp send, so the number gets neither texts nor WhatsApp messages from Conduyt afterwards.
What does WhatsApp through Conduyt cost?
The Conduyt side is included on every plan with active billing, the trial included. WhatsApp messages are billed to your Twilio account: Twilio's per-message fee plus Meta's fee, which Twilio passes through.
